HSBC Championships: Five Brits in main draw at Queen’s

Following a successful week in the WTA 500, the Queen’s tennis club will turn its attention to the ATP 500 event this week, with five British stars set to take to the grass in west London.

The British number two, Cameron Norrie, returns to The Queen’s Club and prepares for the grass court season after overcoming a rib injury suffered in the first round of Roland Garros last month.

Determined to build momentum ahead of Wimbledon at the end of this month, Norrie will take on Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina – their first meeting since 2021 and first-ever encounter on grass.

He will be joined by Henry Wendelken in the first round after he overcame two top 100 players – Adam Walton and Aleksandar Vukic – in qualifying over the weekend to book his spot in the main draw.

Progressing inside the top 230 after his qualifying success, the 24-year-old will continue his tournament on Monday as he takes on the Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round on the Andy Murray Arena.

Arthur Fery and Toby Samuel, also set to make their debuts at HSBC Championships, will go head-to-head in the first round after both Britons were handed a wildcard for the main draw alongside Jack Pinnington Jones, who will face Canada’s Denis Shapovalov.

Samuel heads to the capital on the back of an impressive few weeks after reaching his first Grand Slam main draw at Roland Garros before progressing to the quarter-final of the Ilkey Challenger last week.

Alongside a number of Brits at their home tournament, Australia’s Alex de Minaur headlines a star-stunning line-up at Queen’s with Spain’s teenage sensation Rafael Jodar making his first appearance in west London and Rolando Garros semi-finalist Jakub Mensik in search of his maiden ATP title on grass.
