Jack Draper has suffered another injury setback ahead of Wimbledon as the British player announced his decision to withdraw from his home Grand Slam just 24 hours before his first-round match.
Fresh from reaching the semi-finals last week in Eastbourne, his first competitive tournament in nearly two months after being out with a knee injury, the former world number four has now been ruled out of competing at the All England Club with a long-term arm injury.
He was due to face American sixth seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court on Tuesday in one of the blockbuster games of the opening round.
This injury is not new to Draper as it has kept him out of action for the past year, missing the Australian Open and Roland Garros in the process, and the wait goes on for the British number five to return on the biggest stage in tennis.
“I’m devastated to share that I have had to withdraw from my first round match due to a recurrence of my arm injury,” said Draper.
“There have been a lot of painful moments in the last 12 months, but this one is definitely the absolute worst.”
His announcement comes a day after fellow Briton Emma Raducanu announced she was withdrawing from Wimbledon due to a stress fracture; however, there were concerns about whether the 23-year-old would be fit to compete after missing practice sessions leading up to the tournament.
But for the former US Open semi-finalist, after his positive run at Eastbourne and looking to gain momentum on the grass court, this has come out of the blue for Draper as the Brit’s career continues to be plagued by injuries.
Since competing at Wimbledon last year, where he suffered defeat in the second round to Marin Cilic, Draper only played one more match for the rest of 2025 and has struggled to compete this year, missing the majority of the clay-court swing due to injury.
